I have worked in many different places. Since I turned 17, I have worked in fast food, retail, pharmacy, medical offices as assistant/ receptionist, and finally, as a clinical audiologist in both private practice and ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) clinics. Along the way, I studied in high school, college, and graduate school. Each of these experiences gave me new and different skills.
I remember that at one pharmacy, I was the person everyone came to when they needed help with the computer, the printer, etc. I was good at troubleshooting, figuring out what the problem was and finding a solution. More than once I was greeted by the pharmacist with a “Oh good, you’re here! I need you to get the printer working again.”
My curiosity and love for learning, investigating and problem solving have really helped me as I have moved from one place to another. As I worked closely with staff at the audiology clinics, I learned about different parts of the back end of running a business.
I even tried my hand at starting a business myself. While I learned a lot along the way, I found that I was much better at doing the back-end tasks than I was at selling a product.
I then trained as a professional organizer and was just getting another business going when COVID hit. That business did not survive, since no one really wanted anyone coming into their homes.
I went back to my first love, clinical audiology, until recently. I developed some chronic illnesses that made it very difficult to keep up with the physical tasks at work. I was completely exhausted by the time I got home, and I had nothing left for my family. That’s when I decided to take a different approach.
I have all these skills I have developed along the way. Why not turn that into a business? Since I find that I love doing the back-end tasks, I want to do that for others who don’t love it. That way, they can focus on what they do love about their business. Not only that, but I can have the freedom and flexibility I need to take care of myself, my family, and help in my community. It’s a win-win!
